SMASH (Students Mastering the Art of Southern Hospitality), presented by Oaklawn, is an annual student-led signature event that sets the pace as a premier fundraiser for the hospitality program. Much like preparing a champion for race day, this event gives hospitality students hands-on experience in planning and executing a full-scale production, sharpening their professional skills while deepening their knowledge of the industry. It’s their opportunity to take the reins of their education and deliver an unforgettable experience for every guest in attendance.

This year’s Derby-inspired theme celebrates the thrill, elegance, and tradition of the horse track. Guests will step into an evening filled with the excitement of the starting gate, refined Southern style, and a winner’s circle–worthy spread of food and beverages. From festive hats and bow ties to spirited competitions and themed experiences, the night promises the energy of race day paired with the signature hospitality our students are known for delivering.
